Vegas Baby

One great thing about being an Indie author is the support out there from other people in the same situation, and all the other circumstances along the author journey.

Every year, roughly 2000 authors from all over the world, gather for a week in Las Vegas to learn from others who give their time freely to help us progress and see what it takes to achieve our dream of writing books that people will love. This includes the big-hitters like Amazon, Facebook and Google, plus publishing industry suppliers and individual authors who have made a success of their work and want to share their experiences. Why do they do that? It’s because authors don’t really see each other as competition, more like inspiration. Every book is different and readers always want more good books. It can only make this more likely if we get together to improve our writing…right?

Why Vegas? Well, I never asked that question, but yes, it’s a weird and wonderful place to gather, but it also has the size and type of venues that can hold that many people in one place. Of course, not everyone is in one room all week. There are too many options and speakers for that. There are many rooms and many subjects, for the many stages of the journey we are on, so you pick and choose what you need/want to learn. And even for an introvert like me, it was a wonderful experience. I’d love to go every year but of course, Vegas ain’t cheap.
